Now that the weather is getting warmer, you have the perfect excuse to indulge in your frozen desserts as often as you possibly can.
From ice cream sundaes to ice lollies to black forest gateaux, as far as we are concerned, there are no wrong answers when it comes to choosing your favorite. But when so many dessert recipes rely on milk or egg in their ingredients, it can be difficult for vegans to feel like they have as much choice when it comes to the sweet course.
Here at Yogurt City, we think that everybody deserves to be able to eat delicious frozen desserts, no matter what their dietary restrictions are.
So, for all the animal lovers out there, here are some of our favorite vegan friendly cold desserts:
Fruit Sorbets
One of the best things about fruit sorbets is that you don’t have to make any changes to them in order to make them suitable for vegans. Since sorbet recipes only call for sugar, water and the flavouring of your choice, they’re suitable for everyone. Not only that, but the tart flavor of sorbet makes it the perfect refreshing accompaniment on a hot summer’s day. To make the sorbet extra decedent, add some fresh or frozen fruits on top as the perfect accompaniment.
Vegan Ice Cream
Nowadays, being vegan is nowhere near as hard as it was even only a handful of years ago, with many vegan alternatives readily available in the grocery store. When it comes to making ice cream, just substitute almond butter or coconut milk for cow’s milk, depending on which you prefer. Then choose your favorite ice cream flavor and get creative.
For chocoholic vegans, remember that many dark chocolate varieties are suitable for vegans, just be sure to thoroughly check the ingredients! If you are a chocolate lover but find the vegan friendly dark chocolate too bitter, try mixing in some sea salt when making the ice cream. As crazy as it sounds, a small amount of salt really helps to bring out the sweet notes in strong dark chocolate.
Vegan Cheesecake
You would think from the name that there would be no way that you’d be able to tuck into a cheesecake if you are a vegan. But we are glad to say that you would be wrong! By switching out the usual cream cheese for vegan friendly coconut milk, coconut oil, cashews and agave nectar you can make mouth-watering cheesecakes people will love no matter what diet they have.
Call us greedy, but we like to make several small cheesecakes with different flavors, our favorites being salted caramel, lemon, peanut butter and blueberry!
Hopefully, these 3 ideas have gotten your taste buds watering and your creative juices flowing enough that you’re ready to get creative and start making your own frozen vegan desserts! If you don’t feel like working up a sweat in the kitchen, or just want to treat yourself, then you can always pop into Yogurt City and try one of our delicious frozen desserts instead!
